Kohan: Ahriman's Gift is a classic real-time strategy game that originally released in the early 2000s and came to Steam on August 24, 2011. A developer called Lootmax Games has taken on a modernization and compatibility effort for both this game and its companion title, Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns. On July 8, 2026, they pushed a live-branch update restoring Steam-powered online multiplayer, adding Windows 11 compatibility, and improving the minimap and launch options. That post explicitly says "More to come." Starting August 6, 2026, Lootmax launched an experimental beta branch and has been shipping rapid successive updates: August 6 brought world zoom, HD interface, 4K support, customizable keybinds, and a modern Direct3D 11 renderer; August 14 added a full mod management menu, auto-save, and HD/classic art toggle; August 19 fixed multiplayer and UI issues; and August 21 (the most recent post, just six days before today's assessment) improved loading times, added lobby join sounds, and fixed cursor issues. Known issues are listed as targets for future hotfixes, and the pace of updates — four in under three weeks — shows very active ongoing work. No announcement of the modernization effort concluding has been made.
