Kohan: Immortal Sovereigns is a classic RTS originally released in 2001 and added to Steam on August 24, 2011. As of the previous evaluation in late June 2026, it appeared to be a long-dormant finished product with no post-launch activity. That has now changed significantly. Starting on July 2, 2026, Lootmax Games announced they are the developers handling a compatibility update and modernization effort for this game. They launched a public beta branch with Windows 11 support, Steam-powered online multiplayer, minimap improvements, and other quality-of-life features. This was followed by a rapid series of further updates: a major experimental branch launched on August 6, 2026 adding world zoom, HD interface, 4K support, customizable keybinds, and a modern Direct3D 11 renderer. Subsequent patches on August 14, August 19, and August 21, 2026 added a mod management menu, auto-save, HD/classic art switching, multiplayer improvements, UI fixes, and more. The developer has explicitly stated "More to come" in multiple posts (August 6 and August 14), signaling that the current update work is ongoing rather than concluded. The most recent update was on August 21, 2026 — just six days before today's date. Given the frequency of updates (roughly every few days to two weeks since early August) and the explicit developer statements about continued work, this game is clearly in an active period of development updates.
