Light Fairytale Episode 1 is the first installment in an ongoing JRPG series by solo developer miyu.works. It launched on May 13, 2019 and received a sustained series of feature patches through March 7, 2022 (the most recent being Patch #8, which added Steam Deck support, new skills, and various improvements). Both DLC items — a soundtrack and an anime theme single — were released before the base game launched, in November 2018. This game is a self-contained episode in a larger series. Episode 2 has been fully released, and Episode 3 launched into Early Access on March 12, 2026 and reached full release on March 21, 2026. Episode 1 itself has received no new content updates since March 2022, and the developer has made no announcements of any further content or patches for it specifically. The series continues — but as separate products, not as additions to Episode 1. The last feature patch for Episode 1 (March 7, 2022) is the most reasonable point at which this episode's content was complete, as the developer shifted focus to Episode 2 and Episode 3 from that point forward. Episode 1 stands as a finished, playable product with no outstanding content commitments.

About this game

Light Fairytale is a turn-based Japanese-style RPG series set in a dying underground world ruled by an evil empire.

The goal of this project is to bring back the immersion and emotion of 90's era JRPGs on current platforms with the expected evolution in both design and technique.

Episode 1 is the start of the adventure. Play as Haru and his childhood friend Kuroko as they fight a dark empire in the underground 'Lower City'.

Characters

Haru

A bit lazy and a lot naive, Haru nonetheless is a kind soul and knows how to handle himself if push comes to shove.

Kuroko

She might be short and cute (sometimes), but don't let that fool you: Kuroko is exceedingly capable in battle and always willing to step up. She's also fond of technology - maaaybe a bit too much so.

Notes about the Light Fairytale series

Each episode is a standalone game, approximately 2 to 3 hours long for a first play-through, double it for a full completion of all the achievements and secrets.
