Evaluation

Live the Life entered Steam Early Access on September 16, 2020, and has never reached a full 1.0 release. The developer, a solo developer named Niki, shipped several major updates over the years — including a large city and relationships overhaul in February 2024 and a gym update in June 2024 — and published a detailed roadmap in March 2024 outlining many planned features (jobs, pets, family systems, more city areas, etc.). However, on April 9, 2025, Niki posted a frank announcement stating that development of Live the Life is being "paused." The post explains that after more than four years of solo development, Niki has hit a personal and resource limit and can no longer continue the project alone. The game is described as far from complete — the developer estimates it would take at least as much time again to bring it to a finished state, even under ideal conditions. Rather than continuing, Niki has redirected all remaining effort toward a new online game called "The Life Together Online," with the promise that existing Live the Life owners will receive the new game for free. The developer does not rule out returning to Live the Life someday but explicitly states this is not a promise. There have been no further posts about Live the Life since April 9, 2025. The game is also no longer purchasable on Steam. The Early Access status remains, the promised 1.0 release was never delivered, and the extensive roadmap of planned features remains unfinished. The situation is uncertain: development has been paused with no confirmed end date and no follow-up communication.
