Lost Light is a free-to-play online multiplayer extraction shooter developed and published by NetEase Games that launched on September 1, 2022. The game is structured as an ongoing live service: it operates on a seasonal model with periodic data wipes that reset progression and introduce new content, a rotating companion reward track, recurring limited-time cosmetic events, and two tiers of paid premium membership (Premium α and Premium β) that provide ongoing monetized benefits. This architecture is designed to run indefinitely with no planned conclusion.
Since launch, the game has received consistent updates. Two major seasonal resets shipped — one in December 2022 (NEWS-3) introducing first-person mode, a revamped shelter, new maps, and an action system, and another in May 2023 (NEWS-4) adding an entirely new map (Kaido – K1 Occupied Zone), a pet system, and weapon skin customization. These were accompanied by a steady cadence of feature patches throughout 2023, adding controller support, new bosses and map refinements, and combat balance changes. Updates continued into 2024, with a substantial feature patch in May 2024 (NEWS-8) overhauling matchmaking, weapon systems, and map design, and a further update in July 2024 (NEWS-2).
The global launch post from August 31, 2022 (NEWS-1) explicitly described monetized systems including LP top-ups, cosmetic draws, and premium subscriptions — all hallmarks of a game intended to sustain ongoing revenue and content delivery. There is no developer statement indicating development has concluded or that a final update has been published.
