Afterinfection was developed under Early Access starting around early 2022 and officially released on May 19, 2025. However, all developer activity went silent well before that release date. The last patch shipped on June 2, 2023, and the last developer post of any kind was on August 18, 2023, announcing a skill tree system that was never delivered. In September 2022, the developer posted an apology acknowledging serious networking problems that were preventing new content from being added — these issues do not appear to have been publicly resolved.
The game's store description still references an "early access community," suggesting the page was not meaningfully updated when the game transitioned to a full release. There are no patch notes, announcements, or developer communications accompanying or following the May 2025 launch. The announced skill tree system remains unshipped with no follow-up. Given that the developer has been completely silent since August 18, 2023 — nearly three years — and left a concrete announcement unfulfilled, the game's development status is unclear.

Spawn with nothing and make your way across a large island scavenging for supplies, weapons, and building materials. Pick your fights against other survivors or zombies you encounter then progress in the game to building your own shelter and raiding your enemies.
