Lunar Flight launched on April 10, 2012 as a finished lunar lander simulator. Over the following years, Shovsoft continued updating the game, primarily focused on VR support — moving through Oculus DK1, DK2, CV1, and eventually shipping a VR Anniversary Edition beta on July 21, 2019. That 2019 post is the last recorded developer communication of any substance. The post history spans 2012–2019 and includes one major content release (the VR Anniversary Edition), feature patches, and bug fixes, with the most recent activity being the July 2019 Anniversary Edition beta and a November 2016 bug fix. There have been no developer posts, announcements, roadmaps, or unreleased DLC listings since July 2019 — nearly seven years of silence as of June 2026. The game launched as a complete product and has received no indication of future content. It is best understood as a finished game whose development concluded around the 2019 Anniversary Edition release.

A modern take on the classic arcade game, Lunar Lander, Lunar Flight extends the experience to a fully fictionalized and accessible lunar module simulator providing a variety of mission types involving transporting cargo, acquiring data at survey locations and locating lost cargo.

Completing missions earns experience points and money to be used to refuel, repair and upgrade the lunar module. In addition to missions there are time trial challenges complete with online leader boards and a globally ranked ‘pilots’ leader board, ranked by experience. To round out the game there are a variety of achievements to provide additional challenges and objectives.
