Maneater launched on Steam on May 25, 2021, and received one paid DLC expansion — Maneater: Truth Quest — on August 31, 2021. Following that release, Tripwire Interactive issued bug fix and stability patches through December 8, 2021, which was the last substantive update to the game. The sole DLC has been released and no additional DLC entries exist on the store.
On September 3, 2026, Tripwire announced Maneater 2 as a separate game. This confirms the studio has moved on to a sequel rather than continuing to develop the original Maneater. The announcement of a sequel reinforces that content development for the original game concluded years ago. Maneater shipped as a complete, self-contained single-player experience with one expansion, and that content cycle concluded in December 2021.

Starting as a small shark pup you are tasked with surviving the harsh world while eating your way up the ecosystem. To do this you will explore a large and varied open world encountering diverse enemies - both human and wildlife. Find the right resources and you can grow and evolve far beyond what nature intended, allowing the player to tailor the shark to their play style.
