Evaluation

Melatonin launched on December 15, 2022 as a complete rhythm game with 20+ levels across 5 chapters. At launch, the developer (a solo indie creator operating as Half Asleep) published a post-release roadmap promising several free additions: custom music support in the level editor, mashup editing, localizations, Steam Workshop support, and various accessibility and technical improvements. All of those commitments were delivered over the following year. Mashup editing arrived in February 2023, localization into 9 languages shipped in June–July 2023, and Steam Workshop support launched on October 12, 2023 — completing the original roadmap. Custom music support in the level editor shipped in July 2023. On September 28, 2026, the developer posted a feature patch improving Steam Workshop functionality — adding Mac compatibility for custom music, level update tools, thumbnail uploads, completion tracking, and easier rating/commenting. Notably, the developer explicitly stated they "took a short break from working on my new game" to make these improvements, indicating their primary focus has shifted to a different project. This maintenance patch, while substantive, does not announce new levels, expansions, or story content for Melatonin itself. The December 2024 anniversary post celebrated two years of the game and announced a Deluxe OST release — a merchandise milestone rather than a signal of upcoming game content. No new levels or expansions have been announced at any point since launch. The developer's own framing of the September 2026 update as a side effort while working on a new game confirms Melatonin is no longer in active development.
