METAL GEAR SOLID Δ: SNAKE EATER launched on August 28, 2025 as a full remake of the 2004 original. The only paid DLC — the Sneaking DLC Pack, a cosmetic bundle — was available from day one.
Post-launch, KONAMI has been actively developing the game beyond its initial release. On October 30, 2025, they shipped Ver. 1.2.1, which added FOX HUNT — a completely new online multiplayer mode for up to 12 players that was not part of the base game at launch. KONAMI followed this with back-to-back feature and balance patches on November 13, 2025 (Ver. 1.2.2) and November 20, 2025 (Ver. 1.2.3), both specifically tuning and improving the FOX HUNT experience. The most recent communication from KONAMI was on January 26, 2026 (Ver. 1.2.4), which delivered minor text and bug fixes.
Across multiple patch notes, KONAMI has consistently used language such as "Future updates will be announced as soon as they are finalized," signaling that they consider the game an ongoing project. No specific future content has been named, but the developer has not indicated that updates are winding down. Today's date is September 17, 2026 — roughly eight months since the last patch on January 26, 2026. While that gap is longer than the prior pace of updates, FOX HUNT's ongoing server infrastructure and KONAMI's stated intent to keep communicating future updates suggest this is a pause rather than a conclusion. The Cold War Crisis that started it all
In the middle of the Cold War, Naked Snake, the man who would later be known as Big Boss, infiltrates the Soviet Union to escort a defecting scientist, Sokolov. However, the mission ends in failure when Snake's mentor—The Boss, a soldier known as the mother of special forces—betrays him, and Sokolov is captured by Colonel Volgin of the GRU.
One week later, Snake returns to Soviet territory to rescue Sokolov and eliminate The Boss—a mission that will mark the start of a new legend, against the backdrop of the ever-changing march of history.
