Evaluation
Monochroma launched on May 28, 2014 as a cinematic puzzle platformer. In the months following launch, Nowhere Studios shipped several patches addressing controls, performance, and gameplay issues, and released a Collector's Edition DLC on August 14, 2014 bundling the soundtrack, design book, and art assets. A significant optimization patch in July 2016 — described by the developer as "the biggest and hopefully the last update" — rebuilt game assets for a console port and improved performance and controls on PC. That framing strongly signals the end of active development work on the game. On May 28, 2024, the developer marked the game's 10th anniversary with a commemorative post that looked back fondly on its creation but made no mention of new content or future plans. All DLC has been released, and there are no unshipped content commitments. The game is a complete, finished product.
