Mountaincore

Mountaincore has a well-documented and concluded development story. The game originally launched into Early Access on May 18, 2023, but commercial performance was far below what was needed to sustain even a single full-time developer. The studio (Rocket Jump Technology) was declared insolvent, as confirmed in a January 12, 2024 developer post, with all staff laid off and no realistic path to continued development. On April 22, 2025, the developer made a final, definitive announcement: the game was converted to free-to-play and released as open source under the MIT license. The store description explicitly states "the developer for this game has shut down" and confirms the game will not be completed. The developer's own April 2025 post describes the full history — publisher withdrawal, commercial failure, studio liquidation — and explains that making the game free and open source was their way of giving something back, while acknowledging the game "won't be completed." There are no unreleased DLC, no roadmap items still outstanding in any active sense, no future updates promised, and no studio left to deliver them. The April 22, 2025 announcement is the final chapter. The game is available to download for free in its current, unfinished-but-abandoned state, with the source code available for the community to build upon if they choose.
