Evaluation
Original War is a classic RTS originally released in 2001, brought to Steam on January 27, 2014. Since that re-release, a dedicated volunteer group called the OW Support Team — operating through publisher Bohemia Interactive's Steam presence — has continuously maintained and enhanced the game.
The update history shows a remarkable stream of feature patches spanning from early 2014 through December 12, 2025 (version 3.0.15.360), the most recent developer communication on record. These updates have not been minor maintenance releases — over the years they have added OpenGL rendering, Steam Workshop support, new multiplayer maps, expanded modding capabilities (new SAIL scripting functions, Lua weapon systems, custom upgrades), Japanese language support, high-DPI improvements, an overhauled dedicated server manager, new achievements, and a wide range of gameplay and engine enhancements. The version number has advanced from 1.x in 2014 to 3.0.15 by late 2025.
Looking at the cadence of feature patches: significant updates arrived in February 2014, July 2014, July 2015, December 2015, January 2018, July 2020, March 2022, January 2024, April 2024, and December 2025. The gaps between these updates vary from a few months to roughly two years, with the longest gap being from April 2024 to December 2025 (about 8 months). As of today, September 24, 2026, it has been approximately 9 months since the last update. That is within the range of gaps observed historically between updates (the 2022–2024 gap was also around 22 months).
There are no unreleased DLC listings, no season pass, and no formal roadmap announcing specific future content. The OW Support Team has never announced the conclusion of their support work, and Bohemia Interactive has continued to publish their updates. Given the long-running, community-driven nature of this project and the absence of any end-of-support statement, the game continues to operate as a living product receiving ongoing care.

About this game
An American geological expedition, under a UN mandate, assesses the natural resources in a distant part of Siberia, deep in the trackless steppes of Eastern Russia. But instead of oil, they discover a deposit of a hitherto unknown mineral.
American scientists working for Department of Defense find out that this mineral is in fact identical to the substance used to power an extraterrestrial artifact in their possession. This object is called the EON (Extraterrestrial Object Nexus).
It was found in 1919 by Colonel Emerson near the site of the Tunguska explosion. Emerson was the commander of a US military unit in charge of transporting US war supplies from the city of Vladivostok to the Eastern front during World War I.
DoD Experiments have shown that items placed in the capsule are transported hundreds of thousands of years back in time. The American scientists were not able to understand its construction, nor could they manage to synthesize its fuel. Eventually, the machine - classified Top Secret - was stored, pending further advances in human science.
