Polynomial 2 - Universe of the Music

Polynomial 2 - Universe of the Music

Early access since May 2016

Polynomial 2 is an amazing visual candy which tends to be a space shooter and a music visualizer. Immersive on screen, mind-blowing in VR.

Evaluation

Polynomial 2 has been in Early Access since May 31, 2016 — over a decade — with no 1.0 release or completion announcement from the developer. The store page still describes it as an Early Access product with features "under development" and explicitly notes plans to add more weapons and enemies "during the Early Access period." Developer communication has been extremely sparse. After a cluster of updates in mid-to-late 2016 (including VR support and a Christmas level), the game went nearly silent for almost nine years. A bug-fix update on August 4, 2025 broke that silence, fixing GPU rendering issues and briefly mentioning "newer unfinished content available with --debug=1" — a hint that some development work is still occurring behind the scenes. However, no further communication has followed since that August 2025 post, and there is no roadmap, no announced 1.0 target, and no stated plans for specific future content. The combination of a decade-long Early Access label with no completion date in sight, extremely infrequent developer updates, and no forward-looking statements makes it impossible to know whether this game will ever reach a finished state or receive meaningful additional content.
