Evaluation
Portal Dungeon launched on July 26, 2023, with the developer (a two-person team at Dusk Dog Studio) stating they would "start to design new modes and rich content, and maintain a certain interval of updates." They have delivered on that promise consistently.
Since launch, the game has shipped two paid character DLC packs — Duck (November 10, 2023) and Hamster (March 15, 2024) — as well as a steady stream of free content updates. Notable major updates include v1.17 (July 2, 2024, adding special monsters and new items), v1.18 (March 12, 2025, adding the Treasure Hunter character and extensive balance changes), and v1.19 (February 12, 2026, a cross-game collaboration adding the playable character Chaya from Aeruta, along with new items and a pet). This establishes a pattern of substantial new content arriving roughly every 6–12 months.
The most recent communication from the developer was on September 25, 2026 — just days before today's date — announcing the Steam page for their next game, One More Depth. Importantly, this post is about a new project, not a statement that Portal Dungeon development has concluded. The developer does not indicate that Portal Dungeon updates are ending; the post is a promotion for a future title currently in development.
With the last major content update on February 12, 2026, and no statement ending Portal Dungeon's update cycle, the game remains approximately 7–8 months past its last major release. Given the historical 6–12 month cadence, this sits at the outer edge of the established window, but the developer's silence on Portal Dungeon's conclusion — combined with their active studio presence as recently as September 25, 2026 — means there is no clear signal that development has ended. The announcement of a new project does not itself constitute a closure statement for Portal Dungeon.
Evidence
v1.19 update: cross-game collaboration with Aeruta added playable character Chaya, new items, and a new pet — the most recent major content drop.
v1.18 update added new playable character (Treasure Hunter), new items, and extensive balance changes.
