Prison Life launched on September 23, 2022 and received a steady stream of updates through its development. On that same release date, the developer explicitly stated in the Update 1.0 post that "This will be the final big update for Prison Life 1, I will do bug fixes and maybe small updates," while announcing a shift of focus to Prison Life 2. Following that statement, a few more updates did ship — a quality-of-life patch in September 2022, a new Traitor Guard role in March 2023, a Prison Editor with Steam Workshop support in April 2023, and finally Update 1.5 (a Moving Train escape route and new prison floor) on May 27, 2023. That May 2023 update is the last recorded major content release and also the last news post in the dataset. The developer's own September 2022 statement made clear that Prison Life 1 was winding down in favor of Prison Life 2, and no further content or communications have appeared since May 27, 2023. There are no unreleased DLC listings, no announced upcoming content, and no indication the developer plans to return to this title. The game appears complete as of its final content update on May 27, 2023.
