Evaluation

Project Torque is a free-to-play MMO racing game that originally launched in 2008 and returned to Steam on December 20, 2019. It is structured as a live service: players earn in-game currency, purchase cars and items from an item mall, participate in crew tournaments, and unlock content through ongoing play. The developer added an in-game GP purchase store as recently as June 8, 2026, integrating Steam's regional pricing system. The game has received consistent content updates across its Steam lifetime. Major additions include updated maps and new cars in May 2020, missions and mystery boxes in March 2021, 48 additional tracks in January 2024, the return of the Sumo game mode in April 2026, a large content rework with new cars and tracks also in April 2026, and authentication improvements in June 2026. The April 2026 Sumo update explicitly stated "expect more to come in the next few weeks with new cars, tracks and more core gameplay updates," and the content rework post noted "more cars will be released over the coming few days and weeks." As recently as June 8, 2026, the developer shipped a feature update, confirming the game is actively maintained. The studio acknowledged in a March 2022 community update that development is volunteer-driven with limited availability, but has continued delivering content regardless — with major updates in 2024 and multiple updates in just the first half of 2026. This is a classic live service game with no planned endpoint.
