Evaluation
Rec Center Tycoon entered Steam Early Access on September 6, 2019, and received consistent development updates for the following three years. The developer shipped six major content updates — patches 0.3.0 (February 11, 2020), 0.4.x series, 0.5.0 (December 22, 2020), 0.6.0 (July 28, 2021), 0.6.1 (November 18, 2021), and 0.7.0 (June 14, 2022) — establishing a pattern of roughly one major update every 6–12 months. A follow-up feature patch (0.7.1) was posted on September 9, 2022, in which the developer noted they had been "working non-stop on building new gameplay features" for an upcoming major content patch, and promised a detailed progress post "soon."
That promised update never came. There has been no developer communication of any kind since September 9, 2022 — a silence of more than three and a half years as of June 2026. This far exceeds the developer's established update cadence and the point at which silence becomes a meaningful concern. The game remains listed on Steam in Early Access, meaning it has not reached its promised 1.0 release. No DLC is listed, no roadmap was ever formally published, and no statement about the game's future or the studio's status has been made. The combination of a broken promise (the "coming soon" progress update), an unreached 1.0 milestone, and years of silence makes the game's continued development status genuinely uncertain.
Evidence
Developer posted patch 0.7.1, noting they had been working on new features for an upcoming major content patch. Promised a detailed progress update post 'soon' — this is the last communication from the developer to date.
Major Update 0.7.0 shipped — described as 'by FAR the biggest patch the game has ever had,' overhauling the UI, adding a hardcore mode, and reworking multiple systems.

Here's just a sample of some features you may enjoy:
- Challenging gameplay; unlike many other management/simulation games, failure is a possibility in Rec Center Tycoon. You must keep your customers happy or they may leave negative reviews which can hurt future business leading to poor profits.
- Large selection of buy-able exercise equipment to keep customers satisfied.
- Many different employees types, from your simple receptionist to a boxing trainer.
- Every employee has different motivations, skill levels & traits. Some employees may prefer short 5 hour shifts, others are happy to work 12 hour shifts. An unfit, yet charismatic employee won't make a good lifeguard, but they might make a great receptionist.
It's up to you to choose the right employee for the job! - Hire fitness instructors & create your own fitness classes.
- Host customer parties in your Event Rooms for an added source of income.
- Build a café & hire a barista. You'll need a few cooks to keep the cafe stocked and do catering for any events you may be hosting.
- Create your own manager who is always on-site & can perform various duties to help out & keep things running smoothly.
- Take control of your manager & manually walk around and do a variety of tasks yourself!
- Hire a nurse & build an infirmary for the inevitable accidents that come from customers swimming & using all kinds of heavy gym equipment.
- Running low on money? Take out a loan from the bank! Beware of the interest rates though.
- Complex financial system. Do you charge a flat rate for entry? Or make entry free but dramatically increase the cost of amenities like café food and arcade machines? Do you lock facilities like swimming behind a membership? What will your daily membership costs be?
And there's a whole lot more to come!
