Retrowave World entered Steam Early Access on May 10, 2024. At launch, the developer (RewindApp, a two-person indie studio) was explicit that the game was far from finished and that significant development lay ahead. They delivered on this initially: updates shipped on May 18, June 26, and October 19, 2024, each bringing new content such as additional cars, new city areas, new NPCs, new cosmetics, and new gameplay systems. The October 19, 2024 update (the "Fifth Update") was the most substantial, introducing physical pedestrian NPCs, dozens of car skins, a new free DLC (Retrowave World XXX), additional achievements, and planned further changes to Ocean City. This post also encouraged players to join the Discord and help shape development — signals of a studio still actively engaged with its community. However, October 19, 2024 was also the last public communication from RewindApp on any channel visible here. As of June 21, 2026 — more than 20 months later — there have been no further news posts, patch notes, or announcements. Given that the developer had been posting every 1–2 months during the first half of the Early Access period, this prolonged silence is a serious concern. The game remains in Early Access with no 1.0 release announced and no statement from the developer about whether development is continuing, paused, or has ended entirely.
