Evaluation

Richie's Plank Experience launched out of Early Access on December 18, 2017 after roughly a year of Early Access development. Following its 1.0 release, the game received one major content addition: the Hero Academy update on December 16, 2019, which added three game modes (Missile Defence, Rocket Race, and Fire Fight). This was the last significant new content the developer delivered. After Hero Academy, developer activity shifted to maintenance and minor updates. A feature patch arrived on December 24, 2022 (seasonal tweaks and bug fixes), and a minor EULA and safety message update shipped on December 20, 2023. That December 2023 update is the most recent communication from Toast Interactive. Across the game's entire post-launch history, only one major content release occurred after the 1.0 launch (Hero Academy in December 2019), which is not enough to establish a recurring content cadence. The store description describes the game as a complete psychological VR experience with a well-defined set of activities (the plank itself, Hero Academy's three modes, Santa Simulator), with no mention of planned additions. No unreleased DLC is listed, no roadmap or future content has been announced, and the developer has made no statements suggesting further content is coming. The game appears to have reached its final content state with the Hero Academy update in December 2019, with only maintenance patches since.

About this game

This isn't a game. Richie’s Plank Experience is a psychological experience that your visitors and guests will react to with exhilaration, fear or laughter. For the VR veteran, even more entertainment comes watching the reactions of others.

Health and Safety
This game invokes a near-instant emotional reaction. Due to the nature of virtual reality, this experience can set you off-balance and affect your decision making. The following safety guidelines will reduce the risk of serious injury or harm.
  • Ensure there are two adult supervisors who are alert and capable of catching you if you lose balance.
  • Do not run or jump off the plank.
  • Pick an activity space clear of any objects in your surroundings and keep a clear buffer around your space.
  • Establish a no pushing or provoking rule that is enforced and taken seriously.

You're on a plank, 80 stories high. Knees shaky, palms sweaty. Do you walk or do you freeze?

Richie's Plank Experience is the only VR experience that lets you clone a real-world object into the virtual world for added immersion. Yes, you can adjust the length, width, height and orientation of the in-game plank.

It’s not just a plank.
There’s something for everyone. In Hero Academy, you can:
fly through the city in Rocket Race;
save the city in Missile Defense;
and extinguish fires in Fire Fight!

Is that it?
The Sky Brush level will slow you down with a zen-like skywriting experience and if you are an adventurous adult, try the infamous Nightmare Mode in the hidden elevator panel.
