RussianPunk 2007 launched on November 4, 2021. Since then the developer has been running two parallel tracks of work. On May 19, 2026, the developer announced a full reboot — RussianPunk 2007: Quantum Nostalgia — as a separate Steam product with overhauled mechanics, visuals, and story. All current owners were promised free access to this reboot at launch, and the store page was updated to describe the current version as the "Legacy Edition." The developer also stated the legacy version would eventually be removed from sale. On June 8, 2026, an active progress update on the reboot was published, showcasing a redesigned hub location called "the ARCHIVE" and teasing an upcoming character reveal post. On July 23, 2026, the developer announced a three-part Legacy Update series for this original version. The goal is to progressively rebuild and improve the game chapter by chapter while preserving its identity, preparing it for the story events of the reboot. On July 30, 2026, Part I of the Legacy Update series — "Last Loop, Part I: Protocol Nostalgia" — shipped. It delivers a fully reworked prologue, a major overhaul of Chapter One with a new wave system, shop, upgrade system, and redesigned combat, plus sweeping visual improvements. The post explicitly outlines what remains: Part II will focus on a full rework of Chapter Two and expanded gameplay systems, while Part III will conclude the original game's story with a new ending and establish a direct narrative bridge to the reboot. Two of the three planned Legacy Updates remain unshipped, and the reboot itself is still in active development. There is substantial announced content still to come for this version of the game.
