Sand:box

Sand:box is a free-to-play falling sand sandbox that has received consistent major updates since before its November 2023 Steam release. The developer has shipped three major updates across the game's history: a Tools & Materials update (February 2023), a Circuits & Steamworks update adding 30+ new materials and Steam Workshop support (September 2023), and a large Stickmen update introducing playable characters, vehicles, and multiplayer (December 2024). The most recent developer communication — a December 17, 2025 announcement — confirmed an improved Stickmen update for the holidays and, crucially, made an explicit commitment for 2026: the developer stated that sand:box will be made "fully moddable," that work has already begun, and that an experimental prototype exists. This is a named, in-progress feature that has not yet shipped as of today (October 1, 2026). The gap between the December 2025 announcement and today (October 2026) is roughly 9–10 months, which falls within the developer's established pattern of major updates roughly every 9–15 months. There has been no communication since December 2025 indicating the mod support has shipped or that the commitment has been withdrawn. The modding feature remains an outstanding, developer-confirmed deliverable.
