SCP: Containment Breach 2 launched into Early Access on July 4, 2025 and has been receiving consistent, substantial updates since then. The major 2.0 "Behind the Veil" update on December 6, 2025 completely rewrote the graphics engine with real-time lighting, volumetric shadows, and new content including new SCPs and weapons. A hotfix patch followed on December 18, 2025. On February 8, 2026, Update 2.1 "Refracted Reality" upgraded the engine again to DirectX 11 with Physically Based Rendering and achieved an 85% optimization improvement. On June 26, 2026, Update 2.1.5 delivered a complete netcode overhaul (switching to RakNet), object physics, new gameplay features like grenades and weapon zoom, further visual improvements, and server tooling enhancements. A hotfix for 2.1.5 followed on June 30, 2026 — the most recent developer communication. The game remains explicitly in Early Access, meaning the developers themselves have not declared it a finished product. No statement about concluding development has been made. The pace of updates — roughly one major release every two to four months — shows active, ongoing development work.
