Sea Dogs: Caribbean Tales has been available since March 2018 and has received a series of major updates over the years, including the Legendary Edition (announced August 2021) and a significant textures and global map overhaul released in February 2024. The February 7, 2024 update was described as "one of the biggest visual leaps the Sea Dogs series ever had," and a companion development status post on February 15, 2024 explicitly announced that the team is moving on. In that post, the developer stated this was "one final push with the Storm engine" and that the Sea Dogs series is now pivoting toward a full re-launch on Unreal Engine — a new, separate title. The developer framed this as leaving the current Steam page behind and moving forward to a new project. No further content updates for this game have been announced or are pending. The team's focus has formally shifted away from this title toward the next entry in the series (Caribbean Legend, which launched as a separate game on February 15, 2024). Sea Dogs: Caribbean Tales itself has reached the end of its update lifecycle as of February 2024.

Taking the role of reckless fortune-hunter Blaze or redheaded daredevil Beatrice – you will navigate your sailor in the original seas of the Caribbean, trade multiple goods, plunder merchant convoys, accomplish quests, build up your fleet, capture and rule colonies and much more. In addition, the game can be played in third person perspective, allowing you to walk through your colonies or fight with your own sword, side by side with your crew, and challenge every other captain on the sea!
