Secret Santa launched on December 1, 2016 as a self-contained 30-stage arcade stealth game. The developer released a few post-launch patches and a small Halloween-themed level list update in October 2017. On December 1, 2019, the developer made a notable announcement: after three years on Steam, Secret Santa was made permanently free to play. In that same post, the developer expressed gratitude to original buyers and described the game as having "made its dent," signaling that its commercial life as a paid product was concluded. The most recent developer communication was a performance fix on February 22, 2021, addressing timing issues on higher-end hardware. Since then, the developer has moved on to other projects — a new title called MeanWhile was announced in August 2020. There are no unreleased DLC listings, no roadmap, and no outstanding commitments. The game is a complete, finished product now available for free.
