Evaluation

Slay the Spire (the original game, Steam App ID 646570) is a fully released, complete product. It left Early Access and reached its 1.0 launch on January 23, 2019. Its final major content update — Patch V2.0: The Watcher — shipped on January 14, 2020, adding the fourth playable character along with a large assortment of new cards, relics, and potions. Since that update, Mega Crit has issued only maintenance patches, most notably a February 2022 update adding Steam Deck compatibility and language support. No new gameplay content has been added to the original game after January 14, 2020. All developer communications from 2022 onward have focused exclusively on Slay the Spire 2, a full sequel (a separate Steam product, App ID 2868840) that launched into Early Access on March 5, 2026. The original game's store page and DLC list show only a single released soundtrack DLC with no unreleased items. There are no outstanding content commitments, no roadmap entries, and no developer statements suggesting further content for this game. The original Slay the Spire is a complete, self-contained experience. Anyone waiting to play the "finished" version of this game can do so now — all content has been available since January 14, 2020.
Evidence
Mega Crit officially announced Slay the Spire 2 as a separate sequel, confirming the studio's focus had fully shifted away from the original game.
