Evaluation

Soundboxing launched on September 29, 2016 and received a steady stream of feature updates through its early life. The developer shipped nine feature patches between October 2016 and May 2018, adding environments, Oculus Touch support, beatmap editing, social features, HD video, and various quality-of-life improvements. The last recorded developer communication was on May 11, 2018 (version 1.1.20), which focused on player bugfixes, a new keyboard input method, and an engine upgrade. No developer posts have appeared since that date. In the May 1, 2018 update, the developer expressed a long-term vision ("I see it as a decade-long endeavor") and mentioned "larger Soundboxing efforts going on in the background," but no specific content was ever announced or delivered after that point. Since the May 11, 2018 patch is now over eight years in the past with no subsequent communications, announcements, or DLC listings of any kind, those forward-looking statements were not followed through with any observable action. The game has no DLC, no season pass, and no unreleased content listed on the store. There are no outstanding commitments that were ever formally announced. The game functions as a complete, self-contained product and has shown no signs of active development since May 2018.
