Evaluation

Starfighter: Infinity has been in Early Access since July 16, 2019 and remains there today. The solo developer (Ben Olding Games) has consistently expanded the game over the years, adding new star systems, alien races, ships, weapons, missions, and gameplay systems through dozens of updates. The store description itself notes that content is "being added all the time," and the game's stats grew substantially between 2019 and 2023 — from around 550 equippable items at launch to over 2,200, and from a handful of star systems to 28. The last Steam news post appeared on February 16, 2023, announcing a new star system (Zeta Puppis) and a new alien race called The Abyss. In the preceding December 2022 post, the developer described the game as approaching a "home stretch" and specifically mentioned that a new race, star system, and "Megaboss" events were still in progress and coming soon. However, there have been no further Steam posts since February 2023 — a silence of over three years as of June 2026. The developer had previously acknowledged a tendency to communicate more actively on Discord than Steam, so some development activity may be ongoing off-platform. That said, the promised Megaboss events and the additional content flagged in late 2022 have not been publicly confirmed as released. Given the length of the silence and the outstanding commitments from the developer's own posts, it is currently unclear whether those features shipped or whether active development is continuing.

  • Realtime multiplayer PvP and PvE - keyboard or joypad based action involving skill. Action is skill based dogfighting style, with no fixed tactics: use a fast ship and evade, or a slower ship with tactical aids, and lots of shields. How you combine weapons and tactics is up to you.
  • Designed so that pretty much any ship in game is a threat - you are not 'the chosen one', you have no special advantage over any other ship except your own cunning and skill...
  • Neutral zones, warzones, free for all zones, duels and also jammers, interfering nebula dust all allow for different types of combat and tactics, or no combat at all...
  • Encounter several other alien races in the game with their own ships and lootable weapons/items

  • 21 explorable star systems with between 100 and 289 sectors each, with lots of things to discover
  • Loads of planets to find (100 so far) with their own back stories
  • Ancient Relics drifting in space - not all are just dormant
  • Explore inside space stations, chat to other players while turrets protect you from incoming enemies.
