Evaluation
Starr Mazer: DSP entered Steam Early Access on August 26, 2016, with a stated goal of delivering nine procedurally assembled stages, multiple boss fights, thousands of pilot/ship combinations, and a full music and sound overhaul before a 1.0 launch.
The game's development history has been turbulent. Shortly after launch, the original development team (Imagos Softworks and Pixeljam) posted a roadmap and began working on Act 1 polish. In February 2017, the game was briefly pulled from Steam due to a copyright infringement claim against assets. It returned in July 2017 with a brief announcement.
In June 2019, the developer announced a full restart with a new engine, new development team (SubPixel Studios), new art team, new music, and a new distribution partner (Digital Tribe). This June 2019 post pledged regular monthly milestone updates leading to launch. A July 2019 update delivered Act II, Level 1 ("Reducto ad Absurdum") and explicitly promised that Act II, Level 2 would follow "in August."
That August 2019 update never came. The last official communication from the developer was on August 2, 2019. Since then — through to today, June 27, 2026 — there have been no further updates, patch notes, or developer posts of any kind. The game still carries its Early Access designation, and the promised content (six of the nine levels, additional bosses, the full pilot system, and a 1.0 release) has never been delivered. There is no statement from Imagos Softworks explaining the halt or indicating whether development continues or has been abandoned.
Evidence
Act II, Level 1 released. Developer commits to monthly level releases going forward and announces Act II, Level 2 for August 2019. This is the last developer communication on record.
