Evaluation

Hyperspace Dogfights launched on May 14, 2018 and received a solid run of free post-launch content updates: the Stray Dogs update (v1.129, March 2019), the No Masters update (v1.15, March 2020), and the End-Tech update (v1.203, March 2021). These updates added new items, challenge modes, unlocks, and gameplay systems at roughly annual intervals. After the End-Tech update in March 2021, the developer's attention shifted to building out the broader Hyperspace universe. A new game, Red Tether, launched in January 2022. A third entry, Swirl W@tch, launched in April 2023. A fourth entry, Hyperspace Deck Command, launched in October 2025. News posts from 2021 onward reference Hyperspace Dogfights only briefly — typically to note a small bug fix patch was planned around other launches — with no new content announced for the game itself. The last developer communication mentioning any planned work on Hyperspace Dogfights was in April 2023 (NEWS-4), where the developer noted a bug fix patch was next on the list after the Swirl W@tch launch. There has been no indication of new content planned for Hyperspace Dogfights since the End-Tech update. Both DLC items (the soundtrack and the Deck Crew Volunteer support DLC) are released. The store description describes the game's current feature set without referencing upcoming additions. The developer explicitly noted in the End-Tech post (NEWS-10) that the game is "a complete commercial failure, but is being updated regardless," suggesting the updates were passion-driven rather than part of a long-term content roadmap. Given that the developer has since shipped three additional games in the same universe and has made no content announcements for Hyperspace Dogfights since March 2021, the game appears to have concluded its content lifecycle with the End-Tech update.
Evidence
End-Tech update (v1.203) released — the last major content addition to Hyperspace Dogfights, adding 30 new items, a new unlock menu, and various fixes. Developer notes the game is a 'complete commercial failure' but was updated regardless.

Developer Comments/FAQ

What do I do in Hyperspace Dogfights?
Mainly you fly a jet in a 2d environment and blow things up. You'll also complete randomized goals in order to finish individual waves. In-between waves you'll buy items that modify your jet in various ways. Zones end with random boss encounters. Difficulty is pretty harsh, you'll probably die a lot in the beginning. But each subsequent run will play out a little different. Throughout the game you'll unlock additional items to find on later runs. The game is fairly light on story, but you can piece together a narrative from item descriptions and combat chatter if you choose so.

Feature list?
- Juicy, impact-full and tense 2d air combat, framed in a weird sci-fi universe
- 5+ player jets to fly, all coming with 2 alternate starting loadouts to unlock
- 200+ different passive items, some providing simple bonuses, some completely changing how your jet behaves
- More then 90 sci-fi jet weapons, including beam weapons, explosives and aerial melee options
- 50 active items used for offense, defense or utility
- Strong focus on synergies and weird jet builds. Most items will interact with others, be it in positive and negative ways. All passives can stack with themselves.
- 7 zones with distinct enemy composition to explore
- 10 bosses to die against
- Various wave goals: Hunt ace pilots, strafe ground targets, perform recon scans and more
- 12 late game challenge modes that can be freely combined with another
- Colorful pixel art, powered by the Pico8 palette
- An adaptive soundtrack with combat and menu tracks, consisting of 14 tunes by ENUIT and Ole Toensen (available as dlc)
- Persistent unlocks with lots of items in the loot pool from the get go, but some things only unlockable through the endgame
- Finished runs can seamlessly transition into endless mode if you choose so
- Steam cloud save, cross platform

I found a bug?!?
We did a year long alpha but there is still the possibility that some things slipped through the cracks. Please report your findings in the steam forum or contact me on twitter or through the games' discord channel and I'll look into it.

Thanks!
