Stormgate launched out of Early Access on August 5, 2025 with its first full single-player campaign (Ashes of Earth). The developer then shipped the major Community Update on March 3, 2026 — the biggest Versus overhaul to date, including 4 new units, ranked 2v2 matchmaking, 40+ new maps, and a fully released Map Editor. This demonstrated continued active development post-launch. However, on May 1, 2026, Frost Giant Studios posted a significant update explaining that their server hosting partner (Hathora) was shut down after being acquired by an AI company. As a result, all online game modes — Versus and Co-op — have been disabled. The developer is working on Steam peer-to-peer networking to restore online play, but explicitly stated there are "no confirmed plans yet" for bringing back versus or co-op ladders. Campaign, AI Skirmish, and Custom games can still be played offline. This is the last official communication from the developer (May 1, 2026), and the game's online multiplayer remains disabled with no confirmed path or timeline to restoration. The situation leaves the game's core multiplayer functionality in an uncertain state, with no follow-up update from Frost Giant since then.
