Subspace Discovery entered Steam Early Access on May 18, 2023, and remains explicitly in that state. The developer, FLICK Comp GmbH, has maintained a consistent and active update cadence throughout Early Access. Four major content releases have shipped: the Shipyard, Tech Tree, and Forge overhaul (April 2024, v0.12); the Artifact Discovery system (September 2025, v0.17); and the Wreckages and Overview HUD system (September 3, 2026, v0.18.6), with a steady stream of feature patches in between. Today's date is the same as the most recent major update — the developer is actively shipping content right now. Several updates explicitly mention future plans: the June 2025 Marketplace update describes it as "the foundation for the upcoming Crafting Class, planned in the future," the Ship Hangar notes state "more enhancements are planned for future updates," and the store description confirms cross-play and additional platform support are planned after full release. The December 2024 patch notes addressed full-release migration planning, confirming that Early Access-era purchases and progression will carry over when the game eventually launches. The developer has given no indication that development is winding down — quite the opposite.

Evidence

Major update v0.18.6 shipped on September 3, 2026, introducing Wreckages (salvageable enemy ship debris with new materials), an Overview HUD tactical system, and responsive movement improvements. Notes mention 'additional upgrades are planned for the future' for the Overview HUD.
