Evaluation
Tales of the Black Forest is a completed indie RPG adventure that launched on September 25, 2019. It was developed by a two-person studio (拾英工作室) as their debut title. After launch, the developer added English and Japanese subtitle support in December 2019, then shipped a bug fix update in February 2021 (v1.0.2) that resolved a longstanding engine freeze issue. That patch represents the last substantive development work on the game itself.
Following the completion of that update, the developer's attention shifted entirely to their next project, Firework, which released on February 4, 2021. Subsequent news posts on this game's page have been announcements about the studio's other titles (Firework, Mirror Party, Mirror 2: Project X) rather than any new content for Tales of the Black Forest.
The most recent post, dated May 21, 2026, is a publisher change announcement — the original publisher SakuraGame was replaced by Gamirror Games. This administrative update confirms the studio still maintains the game, but contains no indication of new content being planned. There is no DLC, no roadmap, and no developer statement suggesting further content additions. The game launched as a self-contained story with three chapters and has remained in that complete state since the February 2021 patch.
Evidence
Version 1.0.2 patch released, fixing a longstanding engine freeze bug and adding a control tip at the home screen. This is the last substantive update to the game itself.
Developer announced their second game, Firework, signaling the studio's focus had moved on from Tales of the Black Forest.
