The Day Before launched on Steam Early Access on December 7, 2023, to an overwhelmingly negative reception (15% positive reviews from over 23,000 reviewers). Within days of launch, the developer Fntastic issued a statement on December 12, 2023 acknowledging the game had not met player expectations and began working with Steam to open refunds. On December 22, 2023, Fntastic posted an official announcement confirming the studio had permanently ceased operations. The post stated that The Day Before would be "retired" and its servers shut down on January 22, 2024, and that Steam would proactively refund all remaining purchasers. The game is no longer available for purchase on the storefront. The studio is permanently closed and no further development is possible.
