The Genesis Project

The Genesis Project is a free-to-play fan game recreating SBURB from the webcomic Homestuck, currently in Steam Early Access. It launched on Steam on April 13, 2022, with the developers explicitly framing it as an Early Access release with ongoing bug fixes and updates planned. Since launch, the game has received a sustained stream of updates. Two major named content updates have shipped: "The Dripdate" on February 26, 2023 (new features and fashion content), and "Of Crypts and Creatures" (version 0.6.0) on December 31, 2025, which was a massive update adding overhauled enemy designs and animations, new dungeon systems, new music for every aspect, dozens of new items, and a rebuilt UI. Following that major update, the team shipped a feature patch on April 13, 2026 and a bug fix patch on April 26, 2026 — confirming the team remained actively engaged as recently as April 26, 2026. The store description explicitly states "More to Come!" and invites players to join the Discord to see what the developers are working on next. The game has never been described as feature-complete or approaching a 1.0 release. The roughly 2–3 year gap between the two major content updates is a wide cadence window, but the consistent flow of feature patches and bug fixes between those milestones, combined with the post-0.6.0 patches as recently as April 2026, indicates the team is still actively developing the game.
