The Initial launched on July 17, 2017 and received a flurry of post-launch updates through late July and early August 2017 — including camera overhauls, new combat mechanics, a Special Mode, and a BOSS Challenge mode. All of these have since shipped.
On August 25, 2018, the developer published a letter to players explicitly explaining that after stabilizing the game, the entire team had shifted focus to their next project, Initial 2: New Stage. They described The Initial as "basically stable" and framed the sequel as their forward momentum. This is a clear statement that active development on The Initial had concluded. The sequel was announced as nearly finished and its store page was opened for wishlisting.
On October 6, 2018, the developer posted that Initial 2: New Stage would be released "a few days later," confirming the sequel was ready to ship. This is the last recorded communication about either game in the context of The Initial's store page.
The store description itself promotes Initial 2 prominently, further confirming the developer's attention has fully moved on. The sole DLC — the original soundtrack — was released the day after launch in July 2017. No unreleased DLC exists, no roadmap for future content has been communicated, and no developer posts after October 2018 appear in the record. THE INITIAL is a hyper action game about pretty schoolgirls battling against evil.
The game takes place in a special area called SPE, with a school for students gifted with ESP powers. Every student of the school is skilled in battle, and an evil organization wants to create an artificial girl who has the ultimate power. They have secretly collected combat data and are close to achieving their goal. Now it's up to two students, Ruri and Erika, to stop them.
HIGH-SPEED ARENA-BASED ACTION
This game focuses on high-speed arena-based action. Utilize lightning fast sword attacks and electricity-based powers to smash through enemies. Block, evade, and look for chances to strike against smart enemies who will do the same!
ABUNDANT SKILLS TO EXECUTE ENEMIES
There are many ways to overcome enemies: use skill points to learn new skills and abilities, capitalize on the weaknesses of enemies to beat them quickly, and if the enemy is knocked into weak state you can execute it directly!
INTERESTING CHALLENGES
This game has many levels and battle zones with plenty of challenges along the way. Enemies with different abilities, multiple traps, and unique bosses. With four difficulty levels to choose from, there's a challenge just right for everyone from beginners to action game veterans.
