The Shapeshifting Detective launched on November 6, 2018 as a complete, self-contained FMV mystery game. Post-launch activity was limited to quality-of-life improvements: a scene-skip feature added on November 14, 2018, a series of localization updates adding new subtitle languages through February 2020 (Spanish, Portuguese, Hungarian, Japanese, and Korean), and a minor bug fix in September 2021. None of these updates introduced new story content or expansions to the game. There are no DLC listings, no announced expansions, and no developer statements indicating plans for additional content. The developer's February 2020 post directed attention to their next title, The Complex, suggesting their focus had shifted to new projects. The last developer communication of any kind was the minor bug fix on September 14, 2021. The game shipped as a finished product and has remained so.

Dorota Shaw is dead. And the prime suspects are three tarot readers with the uncanny ability to predict murder - or commit it. It’s your job to find out what else they know - but they won’t reveal their dark secrets to just anyone… Luckily, you can be anyone you want to be. Even the next victim.
The game features more than 1600 full HD video responses, a simple questioning interface with unique ‘delete’ mechanic, and a randomly chosen murderer at the start of the game. Developed by the World Record-breaking makers of "The Infectious Madness of Doctor Dekker".
