Evaluation
The Village launched on October 12, 2017 and has had a sparse post-launch history. In May 2020, the studio was acquired by a new team (operating as "New Waves Games"), who overhauled the game — removing a required third-party account system, fixing 34 reported bugs, and improving overall performance. They pledged to keep the game in the best possible shape going forward.
The most recent developer activity is a bug fix posted on February 15, 2025, resolving an infinite loop issue on game load. While the store description does mention "other modes that are yet to come," this language has been present since the game's original 2017 launch and has not been backed by any concrete announcement, roadmap, or unreleased DLC in the years since. The only DLC — a soundtrack — was released in June 2018. No new content has been announced or shipped since the 2020 overhaul, and there are no unreleased DLC entries on the store.
The October 2017 post announcing a v0.3 update with co-op, expanded modes, and social features was never followed through, and given that nearly nine years have passed with none of those features appearing, this promise was effectively abandoned under the previous studio ownership. The new owners' 2020 statement focused on maintenance and stability, not new content expansion.
Overall, the game appears to have settled into occasional maintenance — the February 2025 bug fix shows the developer still monitors and patches the game — but there is no evidence of new content being developed or planned. The game functions as a complete, if modest, product in its current state.
Evidence
New studio ownership announced a major overhaul: removed third-party account requirement, fixed 34 bugs, improved performance. Stated the game 'is more alive than ever' and they 'will keep the game in the best possible way' — a maintenance commitment rather than a content expansion promise.
Only DLC is the game's soundtrack, released in June 2018. No unreleased DLC exists in the store listing.
