Train Frontier Classic

Train Frontier Classic has been in Early Access since December 14, 2017 and remains explicitly flagged as such on Steam. The developer has maintained a long, irregular — but genuine — history of updates. A full rendering engine upgrade entered public beta testing in September 2024 (NEWS-3), and was promoted to the default build on April 22, 2025 (NEWS-1). That April 2025 post directly states the team is still working on the next patch (covering art and engine changes, quality-of-life improvements, and bug fixes), and adds that "long term, we're working on significant gameplay changes." A December 2024 post (NEWS-2) teased an upcoming streamliner trainset that had entered testing, signalling additional content in the pipeline. The most recent developer communication was April 22, 2025. As of today (October 8, 2026), that is approximately 18 months without a public update — a longer gap than this team's historical pattern, but this is a small indie team with a history of multi-year silences between updates (the last prior substantive communication before the 2024 burst was June 2019). Given that the April 2025 post explicitly described ongoing and future work, and no statement of completion or abandonment has been made, there is no basis to treat the game as finished. The game remains in active development, albeit at a slow and unpredictable pace.
