Evaluation
Train Simulator Classic is a long-running train simulation platform with a massive and continuously expanding library of DLC content. New routes, locomotives, and scenario packs have shipped at a high frequency throughout 2024, 2025, and into 2026 — the most recent releases as of today include the Konstanz–Villingen Scenario Pack (July 24, 2026), a Rail Subscription content update (August 5, 2026), and the 060-EA Romanian locomotive (July 2, 2026).
In May 2025, Dovetail Games published a dedicated update post explicitly confirming that Train Simulator Classic development is continuing, that the studio remains committed to the platform, and that more content is actively being worked on. This post also announced a brand new country for the game: a Netherlands route from Hoofddorp to Hilversum, developed jointly with Jasksoft. A February 2026 "Festival of Rail" announcement showed this Netherlands route actively in development with in-progress screenshots and confirmed it is still coming.
That same February 2026 post also announced the Northampton Loop expansion by Alan Thomson Simulations as "coming soon," but no corresponding released DLC entry appears in the store listing, meaning this content is still outstanding.
The developer has directly stated that many third-party developers are working on new content for TSC right now, and the release cadence — with multiple new DLC items appearing every month — backs this up. The game shows no signs of winding down; if anything, the content pipeline appears as active as ever.
Evidence
Festival of Rail announcement confirmed the Netherlands route (Hoofddorp–Hilversum) is still in development with in-progress screenshots, and announced a Northampton Loop expansion by Alan Thomson Simulations as 'coming soon'.
Train Simulator Classic 2025 annual update released, bringing three new iconic routes into the core package.

About this game
THE ULTIMATE RAILWAY HOBBY
The ultimate railway hobby for more than 15 years! From historic steam locomotives to modern high-speed and heavy freight trains, and routes around the world, Train Simulator Classic is the simulation made by railfans for railfans.
A WORLD OF RAILWAYS
Train Simulator Classic takes you to three countries, with more than 400km/250 miles of detailed real-world routes included. Drive heavy freight trains on the USA’s challenging Saluda Grade, move passengers and freight along Germany’s historic Hochrheinbahn, and take passengers from the English Channel ports towns of Dover and Ramsgate to the capital city, London.
LICENSED TRAINS
Take the controls of trains which are officially licensed by the operating companies. Drive variations of Southeastern’s Class 465, 375 and 395 on Chatham Main Line, take Deutsche Bahn’s BR111 and BR189 from Konstanz to Villingen, and negotiate Saluda Grade in Norfolk Southern’s EMD SD40-2s and GP35s. Get to grips with realistic signalling systems, authentic brake controls and lifelike weather conditions as you become an expert driver through 25 career-mode scenarios, or use Quick Drive to drive the trains you like, wherever you like.
BUILD AND REBUILD
Use the Train Simulator Editor to build living worlds with comprehensive tools. Create your own dream railway or scenario and start a service with your favourite locomotive. With full Steam Workshop support you can share your creations with other railfans around the world, or browse through the thousands of community creations already available to try out.
Please Note: The Train Simulator interface is localised into English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Spanish. Localisation on locos and route content varies depending on the developer who created it.
