Evaluation

Train Life: A Railway Simulator left Early Access and launched its full 1.0 release on August 25, 2022. During its Early Access period, the game received three major content updates (November 2021, January 2022, and April 2022), each adding new regions, locomotives, scenarios, and gameplay systems. At full launch, the Orient-Express DLC shipped on September 22, 2022, adding the historic steam train, its route, and exclusive scenarios. A substantial post-launch patch (Patch 1.20) followed on December 2, 2022, bringing further fixes and improvements. Since December 2, 2022, there have been no further developer communications, patches, or announcements of any kind. Both DLC items are released with no unreleased entries in the store listing. The developer's last statement on future plans, made just before the 1.0 launch in August 2022, mentioned intentions to bring "more DLC content, more maps, trains, bits and bobs" post-launch — however, that statement predates the 1.0 release and was plausibly referring to near-term content (the Orient-Express DLC shipped the following month). No post-launch announcement has reiterated or expanded on those plans, and the developer has been silent since December 2, 2022 — now over three years ago. With no unreleased DLC, no outstanding commitments confirmed after launch, and a development pattern that ended after Patch 1.20, the game appears to have reached its completed state as of that final patch.

About this game

For the first time in a railway simulator, you are the driver and the company manager!

TAKE THE CONTROLS OF YOUR TRAIN AND TRAVEL EUROPE

Drive your passengers or goods across 10 countries and explore the countryside, towns, forests and mountains of Europe from your cab. Each locomotive has its own characteristics (power, braking, etc.), which you need to learn to control them expertly, while following the railway signs and adapting to the weather conditions.

BECOME A TRUE RAILWAY ENTREPRENEUR

As well as driving trains, you need to operate a successful company. Create your own company; buy and maintain your trains; hire conductors and give them new contracts; explore new routes; and optimize your Passenger and Freight activities. Make the right choices to earn money and grow your business!

KEY FEATURES

  • Drive faithfully reproduced iconic trains, such as the ICE 3, ICE 4 and NEWAG Griffin
  • Create and customize your own trains, from their outer appearance to your cab interior
  • Manage your company: hire conductors, choose contracts, build your network, maintain your locomotives to prevent breakdowns and emergency repairs
  • Travel 10,000 kilometres of track through the towns and countrysides of Eastern Europe, Western Europe and the Alps region
