Evaluation
Unicorn Tails launched from Early Access on June 22, 2020, with the developer immediately stating that development would continue beyond 1.0. The game received a steady stream of updates through 2020 and into 2022, including a full voice acting overhaul in November 2020, seasonal winter events in both 2020 and 2022, and various feature and bug fix patches.
Throughout this period, the developer repeatedly signaled that new story content was coming. In December 2021, they explicitly promised "a substantial story update to Unicorn Tails" in 2022. As recently as July 14, 2022, they confirmed that work on new Unicorn Tails story content was still ongoing. The last developer activity of any kind was a minor audio tuning patch on December 23, 2022, followed by complete silence through today's date of June 18, 2026 — over three and a half years with no updates, no announcements, and no explanation.
The promised story content was never announced as released. The store description still references ongoing development intentions ("We are continuing to develop quests, events, and activities"), but this text has not been updated to reflect the current state of affairs. Given the outstanding commitment to story content and the prolonged silence well beyond the studio's historical posting cadence, it is unclear whether development is continuing or has quietly stopped.

Unicorn Tails tells the story of the vast Unicorn Kingdom. Explore Unicorn Island, which was once one of the premier destination spots for all unicorns. That is until Wall Day, when the mainland completely disappeared leaving only the endless ocean surrounding Unicorn Island. Learn about the history of this great Kingdom, discover ways to help the islanders cope and thrive in their new world.

Unicorn Tails is the first game from developers RavenFist Studios. We are building this game because our children wanted a video game where they can run around as a unicorn. Unable to find one, we decided to create it. If our kids want to run around as a unicorn, chances are other kids want to run around as a unicorn too. This isn’t Insert-Word-Here Simulator. This is a world that is being crafted with thought and care.
We are continuing to develop quests, events, and activities that will keep the game fresh. The more popular the game becomes, the more content we will create. This includes adding new game modes and ways to get off Unicorn Island to see new and distant lands.
We are always interested in feedback. What gameplay elements are your children enjoying? What would they like to see added to the game? We’ve already made several additions to gameplay as a result of 5-year-old feedback and will continue to shape the game to be a joy for everyone who plays!
