Evaluation

Verdant Skies launched on February 12, 2018 and received a series of content updates over the following year. Four major content updates shipped post-launch: version 1.2 (The Storage Update) on May 21, 2018; version 1.3 (Teenagers and Quantum Technology) on March 1, 2019; and version 1.4 (Summer Modding Update) on June 22, 2019. The 1.3 update introduced what appears to be the narrative conclusion of the game, including a special "The End" event with a new vocal song. The 1.4 update focused on modding tools and quality-of-life improvements to existing content. After June 2019, no further major content updates shipped for over six years. The developer's most recent significant update, posted on September 4, 2025, was explicitly framed as a technical maintenance release — upgrading the game engine from Unity 2017 to a modern version, adding Steam Deck controller support, and ensuring long-term compatibility. The developer stated directly: "I'm a firm believer in keeping a game working as long as possible. I want Verdant Skies to be a game you can come back to years later." This update also introduced the developer's next game, Veridian Expanse, as a separate project. No new story content, characters, or gameplay systems were introduced. A follow-up security patch was released on October 3, 2025, addressing a Unity engine vulnerability. No content announcements or future update plans for Verdant Skies have been made. The game's content appears to have been complete as of the June 22, 2019 Summer Modding Update, with the 2025 activity representing purely technical upkeep rather than new content development.

About this game

Verdant Skies is a life simulation game born from a love for games like Harvest Moon and a desire to create something unique with modern gameplay and deep storytelling. Lose yourself in the lovingly hand-painted alien world of Viridis Primus. Ensure the success of the colony as you make friends and pursue romance with a diverse cast of characters. Demonstrate your mastery of the farming system by creating the perfect crop hybrid using the genetic splicing machine - or spend your days painting and making pottery. The possibilities are endless!

With many natural skin tone options and tons of unique hair styles and clothing choices you can easily craft your perfect avatar. Split your time wisely between activities as you help to build your colony. Gather resources, decorate your home, grow crops, go spear fishing, cook interesting meals, befriend your fellow colonists, and maybe even fall in love...
