Warframe is a free-to-play online action game that has been in continuous, active development since its launch on March 25, 2013. Digital Extremes has maintained an unbroken cadence of major named updates, with three shipping just in 2026 so far: The Shadowgrapher (March 25, 2026), Jade Shadows: Constellations (June 17, 2026), and Amir's Shockwave (August 12, 2026 — live just five days before today's assessment date).
The game's future roadmap is unusually clear. At TennoCon 2026 on July 11, Digital Extremes unveiled "Warframe: Tau" — an entirely new star system described as the game's next major update, arriving "later this year." The announcement details an expansive new region called Fornax, a new Warframe named Brysko, and a continuing cinematic narrative, making this a substantial upcoming content commitment. A subsequent announcement on July 24 confirmed additional upcoming updates by name: Iceblade of Narin and a Baruuk Deluxe skin that was explicitly deferred from the June update.
The game is structured around a perpetual content model: rotating Prime Access packs, Heirloom Collections (the Mesa Heirloom Collection released as recently as July 11, 2026), seasonal Nightwave events, KIM narrative mini-adventures, and annual TennoCon community events. All DLC currently listed on the store has shipped, reflecting the nature of this model — content is continuously announced and released in an ongoing cycle rather than through a fixed season pass with unreleased slots. There is no defined content endpoint, and Digital Extremes has given no indication of winding down development.
