Warplanes: WW1 Fighters launched on Steam on March 4, 2021 and has received a consistent stream of updates from Home Net Games since then. Major content milestones include: Update 3.0 (November 29, 2021) adding two new planes; the large Update 4.0 (October 20, 2022) overhauling graphics and rebuilding the multiplayer system; a multiplayer-focused Update 4.3 (October 3, 2023) adding map selection, new game modes, and cockpit features; and a significant graphics overhaul (April 5, 2024) with high-resolution terrain textures and improved lighting. A maintenance patch (version 4.5.6) was released on April 10, 2026.
The developer has consistently stated their intent to keep supporting the game. In the October 2023 update post, they explicitly confirmed: "support for Warplanes: WW1 Fighters will continue." The April 2024 update post reinforced this, describing ongoing improvements to the entire Warplanes trilogy so that "fans of WW1 Fighters... have the best experience possible."
The pattern of major updates — roughly every 12 to 18 months — combined with active maintenance patches and repeated developer commitments to ongoing support indicates this game continues to receive meaningful development attention. If you are looking for a challenge, try a Real War where all secondary forces and effects are calculated, you have to manually take off and land, planes get realistic damages affecting flight, A.I. is more cunning and aggressive and all HUD elements are disabled.
Two campaigns for Central Powers and Triple Entente let you experience all major fronts of World War I – you’ll fly above diverse landscapes that participated in the conflict in various types of missions. Face-off against enemy fighters and bombers, bomb strategic ground targets, destroy naval forces, protect your base and cities from the bombing raids.
Build a squadron, switch between planes to utilize maximum potential of each machine – fast and well armored Junkers D.II is a perfect choice to fight bombers, while highly manoeuvrable Fokker Dr. I is designed for efficient dogfight. Airco DH.2 with its wide-open cockpit will guarantee a unique and immersive flight experience.
Buy and upgrade your planes with in-game currency earned during missions. Your command will also reward you with medals – thanks to them you’ll be able to increase mission rewards, as well as manage your planes and crew more efficiently.
