Without Within

Without Within is a free-to-play visual novel that released on January 22, 2015. The following day, on January 23, 2015, an Extra Edition DLC was released, which represents the only additional paid content ever associated with this game. Both the base game and its sole DLC have been available since early 2015. In December 2018, the developer (InvertMouse) published a candid post explaining that the Without Within series could not continue in its current format due to financial constraints in a saturated niche market. The developer outlined that continuing the Vinty story would require significant format changes (such as shifting to light novels) and acknowledged the budget simply wasn't there for a remaster or new entry under the same production model. Critically, the developer explicitly stated they were moving on to traditional game development, introducing Clea — a horror title — as their next project. Clea was subsequently released on July 10, 2019. The series did continue in a sense, with Without Within 2 releasing on November 9, 2015, and Without Within 3 on May 5, 2018 — but these are separate Steam titles, not content additions to this first game. The original Without Within game itself has received no new content since the Extra Edition DLC in January 2015, and the developer's December 2018 statement makes clear that no further development for this specific title is planned. The game launched as a complete, self-contained story and has been finished since January 2015.
