Abalyte launched into Early Access on October 15, 2018 as a 2D roguelike metroidvania. The developer posted regular updates through early 2019, including a major content patch (Build 08) on February 2, 2019 and a call for team members on February 24, 2019. On July 12, 2019, the developer posted a significant announcement: the entire game would be rebuilt from scratch — ported from GameMaker 2 to Unity, redesigned from a 2D platformer into a third-person 3D RPG, and shifted into a closed beta. The developer stated the old 2D version would be replaced "around November" 2019 and expressed optimism that the 3D version would "bounce back in a few months." That was the last post ever published. No 3D version has appeared, no closed beta was announced, and no updates of any kind have been posted since July 12, 2019 — nearly seven years ago. The game still sits in Early Access in its original 2D form. The developer's promised overhaul never materialized, and there is no indication of whether development is continuing, suspended, or abandoned.
