Evaluation
Alien Arena: Warriors of Mars launched on November 3, 2017 and has remained in active development ever since. The game shipped eight map packs as paid DLC between August 2018 and December 2019, alongside multiple major engine and content updates. A significant free content drop in November 2022 added ten new CTF maps, and feature patches continued into 2024 with improvements to server infrastructure, Discord integration, and automatic map pack installation.
On April 9, 2026, the developer posted an explicit confirmation: "Is Alien Arena still being developed? Yes, it certainly is." This post introduced "Project 100," a major initiative to modernize the game's legacy Quake 2-era netcode with 100 FPS framerates, 100-tick server rates, and improved lag compensation. That work shipped as version 7.72 on June 14, 2026 — the most recent update available. In addition to the Project 100 improvements, 7.72 extended single-player mode with new game modes and weapon modes, and included several bug fixes.
All eight listed DLC packs have been released. The developer has not announced any named future content beyond what has already shipped, but the sustained pattern of updates — with the most recent arriving just two months ago as of today — indicates the game continues to receive meaningful development attention. No announcement of a content conclusion has been made.
