Awesomenauts has had a long and winding development history. The original developer, Ronimo Games, announced in December 2020 that the game was in "maintenance mode" with no further updates planned. Atari subsequently acquired the game and, in January 2025, published a detailed community update explaining that while the game was not in a sustainable state when they took over, they had been working to re-engineer the backend and restore the full experience. They outlined a roadmap to bring back all characters and content. By June 2025, Atari announced the premium relaunch beta, and on October 28, 2025, the fully restored version went live on the main branch — including all previously paid Starstorm and Overdrive expansions, all characters and skins, and a new moderation system. A follow-up bug fix in December 2025 addressed performance and cosmetic issues. In November 2025, Atari stated they "remain committed to the community and this game's long-term success," but that post-relaunch messaging is a general commitment statement rather than an announcement of specific new content. All 79 DLC items are released, no new content has been announced, and no further development roadmap has been published since the October 2025 relaunch. The game appears to have reached a stable, complete state following its successful re-launch.
