Evaluation
20XX launched out of Early Access on August 16, 2017, shipping its endgame content and marking the transition to a full 1.0 release. After launch, the developer released two paid character DLCs — Hawk on February 12, 2018 and Draco on July 10, 2018 — along with a steady stream of feature patches and bug fixes through 2019 and into 2020.
The clearest signal about the game's future came in a April 25, 2019 developer post, which noted that Batterystaple was "looking for feedback on the game's future going forward as Batterystaple focuses on new projects full-time." This was followed on February 13, 2020 by an announcement that the studio had finished its full-time work on 20XX and was now focused on its sequel, 30XX. The developer explicitly stated they "finished our full-time work on 20XX."
The final update to the game was a feature patch on July 29, 2020 (version 1.42.0), which added crossplay support with the Epic Games Store version and a Russian translation. No updates of any kind have been posted since that date. All three DLC items listed on the store are released. No future content has been announced or teased.
The game shipped as a complete product, received meaningful post-launch content in the form of two character DLCs and numerous updates, and the developer has since moved on to a full sequel. The content for 20XX is complete.
Evidence
Developer announces 30XX sequel and explicitly states the team has 'finished our full-time work on 20XX', signaling that active development on 20XX has concluded.
Developer notes they are gathering feedback on the game's future 'as Batterystaple focuses on new projects full-time', indicating a wind-down of active 20XX development.
